Context
The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) approved an Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) for the procurement of 25 Advanced Light Helicopters (ALH)-Mark III from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), Bengaluru-headquartered defence public sector enterprise.
About
- Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH-DHRUV) is a twin engine, multi-role, multi-mission new generation helicopter in the 5.5 ton weight class.
- It is indigenously designed and developed.
- Dhruv is “type –Certified” for
- Military operations by the Centre for Military Airworthiness Certification
- Civil operations by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation
- It’s variant ALH-Mark III is for utility roles of Defence Services suited for high altitude operations.
- Procurement cost: Rs 3,850 crore
- It is to be procured for the Indian Army’s Army Aviation Corps under the “Buy Indian-Indigenously Designed, Developed and Manufactured” (Buy Indian-IDDM) route.
