Though motivation is a long-term deal, sometimes all we need is a quick dose to get into action. Especially when exam dates are approaching or during mock test times when we need to stretch studies for long hours or while studying uninteresting topics, we need to motivate ourselves from time to time. This article brings to you the top 10 tried and tested tips for instant motivation. In the present article, the top 5 tips have been shared and the article next Monday will have the next set of tips.
5-Second Rule
Motivational speaker Mel Robbins invented 5-Second Rule which helps to close the gap between ‘what we think and what we actually do’. She says, “You just have 5 seconds to act on your goal. Don’t keep thinking, just do it or the opportunity is missed. We are one decision away from entirely different life!”
You know why you are doing the preparation. You know what’s your goal, you are the maker of your destiny but at execution level everything is different. 5-second rule will help you to come out of the habit of procrastination and act on your goal. Whenever you feel you need a motivation to do something, start counting backward, 5-4-3-2-1. Counting from 5 to 2 will help your brain to focus and 1 is like a ‘GO’. At 1, leave everything you are doing instantly, go and just do it! It’s a great rule when you have a task in mind. Go for it!
Cost of Doing it vs. Cost of Not Doing it
The second most effective tip to stop procrastination and act is to compare costs in your mind. This activity will help you to bring out clarity in priorities and to understand the value associated with your to-do list. Since you already know what you will achieve and why you want to do it, you just need to know how you should boost yourself. It will take less than one minute of your time to compare both situations – 1. What will happen if you do it right now and 2? What will happen if you don’t do it right now? Implications of not doing it aren’t affordable for sure. One act of not doing will screw up your entire days or weeks schedule and you can’t let it happen. Just compare costs and apply 5-second rule! You will find yourself there, acting on what you were supposed to do.
Plan it Right Now
Sometimes you may have missed planning on days or weeks. Sometimes you just go with the flow but without a definite goal in mind, you don’t even realize when you close the book and find yourself lying in your bed with endless scrolling on social media. Comfort takes over your long-term goal and scrolling or watching videos looks like the perfect engagement for the day. To put a full-stop to mindless, endless entertainment, you just need to pick one thought which reminds yourself about your goal, grab a notebook and pen, and plan it right now! Make a list of tasks you want to finish on that day and start executing. Spontaneity doesn’t work all the time, we need clearly defined goals to be productive on most of the days.
Take a Mindful Break
It is important to take timely breaks for keeping our minds healthy. If you are totally unable to focus, don’t force yourself. It’s okay to take a quick break. Practicing mindfulness is one way to calm the mind and regain lost focus. This is how you can practice mindfulness –
When you come back, you will feel refreshed with a less cluttered, open mind which can focus.
Connect with Nature
One reason why we can’t focus on is the constant interaction with gadgets and other artificial things. These days, it is hard to spend time with nature, but this is one of the great ways to refresh mind and get back lost motivation.
First and most important thing to connect with nature is to disengage yourself from distractions like notifications, phone ringing, etc. Turn off the TV, laptops, phones, and other gadgets. Go out, take sunlight and fresh air for some time. Go to a nearby park where you can spend some time looking at the greenery. Just spending little time with trees, flowers, grass, mud helps to revive our mind and the Green color helps to boost creativity. Spend 15-20 minutes there taking a walk or simply sitting and observing nature. Walking barefoot on the grass is also a great way to relax. After coming back, you will feel refreshed and energized.
