Quant section has always been a section which seems to be on the 2nd priority list for aspirants. The cut-off last year for this section was 7.75, which means the paper was difficult.
The reasons for the paper to be perceived as difficult for the aspirants maybe
- Too many calculations in the DI questions.
- Understanding the DI set took time, hence the aspirants could not prioritize
- The word problems required conceptual clarity.
- The Missing/ wrong number series were not easy to understand.
The way to master this section is as given below.
- Understand the difficulty level of the section within the 1st 1 min of paper.
- Prioritize your attempts and don’t stick to one DI. It is not a moral obligation to attempt all DI questions of a particular set, just because you have invested time to look into that set. The reason being , the difficulty level of questions change within a set. Hence move over to the next set and attempt 1-2 questions in the next set. This way you can easily get 8-9 correct. Identifying the right mix of questions in the DI set is very important.
- The Word problems require conceptual clarity. Even if you get just 5 correct from the questions given from 10-12 given it will be enough. That does not require too much headache provided you know the very basics of Percentage, Time and Speed and Time and Work, because from these 3 topics questions surely come.
- You SHOULD attempt the Quadratic equation section. In those slots where quadratic does not come, do attempt the simplification questions because they attempt the basic approximation skills.
- Don’t waste your time too much on Missing number series, because if you don’t get them on the 1st go, it is time-wasting.
