Context
To enhance the employability of youth, the Union Labour Ministry in collaboration with Microsoft India launched a Digital skilled platform- “Digisaksham”.
Key- highlights
- DigiSaksham is aimed to empower job seekers and youth from rural and semi-urban areas by imparting the digital skills that are essential in a competitive and increasingly tech-driven economy.
- In the first year, free of cost training in digital skills (basic skills as well as advanced computing), will be provided to more than 3 lakh youths.
- Priority beneficiaries: job-seekers of semi urban areas belonging to disadvantaged communities, including those who have lost their jobs due to Covid-19 pandemic.
- Under the initiative, there will be basically three types of training
- Digital Skills – Self paced learning
- VILT mode training (Virtual Instructor led)
- ILT mode training (Instructor led)-The ILT training which is in person training would be conducted at the Model Career Centres (MCCs) and National Career Service Centres (NCSC) for SCs/STs across the country.
- DigiSaksham is an extension of the government’s ongoing programmes which are aimed at engaging youth for reskilling, upskilling, and skilling.
- Through the initiative, the 10 million active registered job seekers will be able to access the training including computing and computer science training on the National Career Service Portal.
About National Career Service (NCS) Portal
- National Career Service is the portal to connect job seekers and employers.
- The portal was launched in 2015.
- Type of service: Online
- Point of access: Career Centres (Employment Exchanges), Common Service Centres, post offices, mobile devices, cyber cafes etc.
- It is a National ICT based portal that facilitates registration of job seekers, job providers, skill providers, career counsellors, etc.
- Implementing Agency: Ministry of Labour and Employment.
