NMDC becomes the first Indian company in Iron ore production

Context 

• National mineral development corporation became the first company in iron ore production by producing 40million tonnes of iron ore in a year.
• It also set a target of becoming a 100 MT per annum company by 2030.

• It is the single largest iron ore producer in India.
• It owns and operates highly mechanized iron ore mines in Chattisgarh and Karnataka areas.
• Its headquarter is located in Hyderabad.
• NMDC is also known in the world as one of the low-cost producers of iron,
• It is also setting up a 3MT integrated steel plant at Nagarnar,Chattisgarh.
• Sumit deb is the current Chairman and MD of NMDC
