The National Eligibility Test (NET) is administered on the behalf of the University Grants Commission (UGC) for influencing the capability of Indian Nationals for the eligibility of Junior Research Fellowship, Assistant Professorship, or both, For Indian universities, colleges, and Institutions Recognized by UGC.

The NET was organized by CBSE until June 2018, in 81 Subjects in 91 cities across the country, subsequently from December 2018 onwards; UGC NET is being organized by the National Testing Agency (NTA).

UGC NET Notifications

  • The UGC NET Examination date has been postponed by the National Testing Agency (NTA).
  • The Admit card for the UGC NET June 2021 & December 2020 Examination will be released soon by the NTA
  • The UGC NET Admit cards will be released soon on the official website of the NTA ugcnet.nta.ac.in
  • The UGC NET2021 examination will be organized from 17 October 2021 to 25 October 2021 by the National Testing Agency.

UGC NET 2021 Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

  • Aspirants must have a Master’s Degree or equivalent from UGC Recognized Universities/Institutions.
  • Candidates, appearing in the final semester of the master’s degree can also apply for this exam.
  • The Qualify exam has to be passed in humanities (including languages) and social science, computer science &Applications, and Electronic Science.
  • Candidates must have scored 55% and 50% marks for reserved category students.
  • 5% relaxation is given to Ph.D. Degree holders in aggregate marks.

 

Age limit & Relaxation

 

  • JUNIOR RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP (JRF) Candidate’s maximum age should be 31 years. (This age limit is applicable for the current examination only).
  • ASSISTANT PROFESSOR – There is no upper age limit to apply for Assistant Professor.

  • The Online test will consist of 2 papers. Both the papers consist of objective-type tests and multiple-choice questions. There will be no break between the two papers.

For every correct answer, Two marks will be given. There is no negative marking for incorrect answer

 

UGC NET Exam Syllabus

  • In paper 1, Candidates will be asked questions from a common subject
  • In paper 2, candidates will be asked questions from 81 subjects chosen by them.
  • Both the Papers are compulsory for the candidates.
  • Paper1 syllabus has 10 units and exactly 5 questions will be given from each unit

Unit-I Teaching Aptitude Syllabus

Teaching: Concept, Objectives, Levels of Teaching (Memory, Understanding, and Reflective), Characteristics, and Basic Requirements.

Learner’s Characteristics: Characteristics of Adolescent and Adult Learners (Academic, Social, Emotional and Cognitive), Individual Differences.

Factors Affecting Teaching Related to Teacher: Learner, Support Material, Instructional Facilities, Learning Environment, and Institution.

Methods of Teaching in Institutions of Higher Learning: Teacher-centered vs. Learner-centered Methods; Offline vs. Online Methods (Swayam, Swayamprabha, MOOCs, etc.).

Teaching Support System: Traditional, Modern, and ICT-based.

Evaluation Systems: Elements and Types of Evaluation, Evaluation in Choice Based Credit System in Higher education, Computer-based Testing, Innovations in Evaluation Systems.

Unit-II Research Aptitude Syllabus

Research: Meaning, Types, and Characteristics, Positivism, and Post positivistic Approach to Research.

Methods of Research: Experimental, Descriptive, Historical, Qualitative and Quantitative Methods, and Steps of Research.  

Thesis and Article Writing: Format and Styles of Referencing, Application of ICT in Research, Research Ethics.

A passage of text is given.

Communication: Meaning, Types, and Characteristics of Communication.

Effective Communication: Verbal and Non-verbal, Inter-Cultural and Group Communications, Classroom Communication, Barriers to Effective Communication, Mass-Media, and Society.

Unit-V Mathematical Reasoning and Aptitude 

Types of Reasoning: Number series, Letter series, Codes, and Relationships.

Mathematical Aptitude: Fraction, Time & Distance, Ratio, Proportion and Percentage, Profit and Loss, Interest and Discounting, Averages, etc. 

Unit-VI Logical Reasoning 

Understanding the Structure of Arguments: Argument Forms, Structure of Categorical Propositions, Mood and Figure, Formal and Informal Fallacies, Uses of Language, Connotations, and Denotations of Terms, Classical Square of Opposition, Evaluating and Distinguishing Deductive and Inductive Reasoning, and Analogies. 

Venn diagram: Simple and multiple uses for establishing the validity of arguments.  

Indian Logic: Means of Knowledge, Pramanas- Pratyaksha (Perception), Anumana (Inference), Upamana (Comparison), Shabda (Verbal testimony), Arthapatti (Implication) and Anupalabddhi (Non-apprehension), Structure and Kinds of Anumana (Inference), Vyapti (Invariable Relation), Hetvabhasas (Fallacies of Inference).

Paper-II

 

  • UGC NET Paper-II will be based on subject-wise selected by the candidates. The paper consists of 100 multiple choice questions for 200 marks. A total of 81 subjects will be covered in the UGC NET exam. Candidates have to select one subject of their post-graduation.
  • Candidates have to focus on any one subject. For applying for UGC NET, Aspirants have to need a master’s degree in their subject.
